My Life Story

Got out of bed, made a coffee, turned on the computer. Been here ever since.

I spend my time

Running in small circles while achieving nothing

I thought here might be an appropriate location for me to explain about my new avi and sig (rather than up in the sig testing forum). It's enough to drive one to drink!
The problem is a really poor piece of legislation, which comes into force at the end of the month. It's about copyright infringement. Now I don't have a problem with the concept of copyright. However, the utterly offensive punchline to this law is that if you are

Arrggh! I need to write. Need to. I suppose it could be usefully channelled into writing a Christmas letter, but no. That won't allow me the sort of catharsis I require.
It feels like I've not written anything for months. I know this is not true; more like I've not written anything decent, anything I cared about for maybe 2 months. There's an obstruction somewhere inside - I can't even define where the jam is, if it is between my brain and my hand, or between hand and...

"Escape was easy. Dressing table, window, shed roof, peach tree, ground. I'd done it before, but only once. I'd left one of those hand held games - tetris or something equally addictive - out on the back step when my mother called me in for dinner. I'd remembered it hours later, lying in bed trying to get to sleep....

I'm feeling entirely focused on trivial, superficial stuff at the moment. Work still has an undercurrent of unpleasant stuff happening, which I do my best not to think about. My friend who was fired several months ago has had a court hearing about his dismissal, so we are waiting to find out if he'll be reinstated or not. Whatever happens there, there'll be fallout of some description. It's easiest not to think about it until it happens. My home is still on the market - has been...

Oh, I've not wandered inhere for a while! Just to respond to a couple of mentions further up the page...
A friend loaned me the first of the "Dresden Files" (Stormfront, I think?) last year, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't watch the TV series however. Annoyingly, the local library doesn't seem to carry the series, and the friend who loaned me the first one is currently overseas for a few years (selfish moo).
Have read probably the first half dozen of the...

Yay! It is along weekend here in NZ - Queen's birthday weekend, which is a bit funny as Eliz. 2 has her birthday in April. I guess it must have been some monarch's birthday at some point - why on earth yould a country choose to have a public holiday at the start of winter? A godsend for the education sector however, as it falls nicely in the middle of term. There's been a bit of fog about the last couple of days....

image Just watched the final episode of North & South. Wow, Phoar, *swoon*, *goes for a lie down*, etc. I think I need to own a copy of this so that I can make all my girlfriends watch it. It must have been on TV here at some point - how on earth could I have missed it? That has to be one of the most romatic endings I've ever seen - right up there with...

It seems a very long time since I wrote anything in this journal. It is school holiday time again - I love the NZ system of 4 term years - only having to work about 10 weeks at a time is a real blessing. This term has been quite busy, although this year I'm teaching less than ever before. I have only 16 hours of teaching time a week, although the rest of my time seems rapidly soaked up with all manner of administrative tasks, writing assessments, marking and all that other stuff. I'm...
